“What did you do?”

“We weren’t a couple or anything. I mean, I had a crush on her, but never acted on it… at least not before. And then—with my sister’s death—everything changed...”

He took a sip.

“Lisa was there for me during all of it, the only one who was just there. Silently supporting me, and…she didn’t deserve to get pulled into all my shit.”

He rubbed his neck. “I regret that ever since.”

I nodded. We all had our past. Some of us were still haunted by it. Some of us had regrets.

But nothing in the past could ever be changed, not the facts, not the failures. All we could do was strive to be the best version of ourselves in the now and let the past be in the rearview mirror.

Easier said than done.

But we would never quit.

The only easy day was yesterday...
